Our editorial standards

Accuracy and sources

We will check names, dates, figures and quotations against original sources whenever possible. Meeting coverage should identify the governing body, date, agenda item, motion and recorded vote. Documents and recording timestamps should be linked when available.

Fairness and independence

Reporting will distinguish verified facts, attributed claims, opinion and paid material. People or organizations facing significant criticism should have a fair opportunity to respond. Advertising will not buy favorable coverage.

Corrections and updates

Factual errors should be corrected promptly with a visible note explaining the change. Substantive updates should carry an update time. A change to an outcome should be distinguished from a correction of earlier reporting.

Original work

Articles should add original reporting or analysis. We will attribute material from other sources and use only photographs and other media we own, have permission to use or can otherwise lawfully publish. AI assistance, if used, does not replace source verification or editorial responsibility.
